A Little About Me

Hey there! I'm Sunny Jhaj, and if there's one thing that ignites my drive, it's a genuine passion for driving. As a dedicated safety professional specializing in Driver Safety, I've worn many hats along the road – from instructor and advocate to corporate program developer.

My journey? I’ve only had 22 jobs, and I am not done learning yet, a brief resume: I've been a provincial examiner, clocked in miles as a long-haul trucker, spent time as that friendly face in the secondary rearview mirror guiding new drivers to confidence, and now focus on driver safety education. Underneath all these titles, I'm just someone who loves being behind the wheel.

Why am I so enthusiastic about driver safety? It all boils down to one belief shared with all my peers dedicated to road safety: Vision Zero. I'm on a mission to empower through education, with a focus on the human factor, making our roads safer for everyone, including the families we hold dear.

Personal Background

In case you're curious about the person behind the wheel, here's a little snapshot: I'm a fiancé, son, and brother, proudly hailing from the scenic town of Penticton, BC. As a kid, I always had this drive (pun intended) to be the best at whatever I set my mind to – blame it on being fiercely competitive!

Funny enough, it was my mom who sparked the idea of becoming a driving instructor. I remember scoffing at the thought as a teenager, but life has a funny way of teaching us lessons. Now, after many life lessons I understand that being the best driver isn't about speed – it's about safety and responsibility.

Professional Achievements

Well, I've got a few things that come to mind: from holding a Driver Instructor License with Theory and Practical Designation to being a certified School Bus instructor and trainer. As my day job I am a Thinking Driver Chief Instructor, learning from my mentor Spencer McDonald. Last but not least, what truly makes me happy is that I’ve had the opportunity to share my knowledge at safety conferences like the BCMSA Conference and the Alberta Health and Safety Conference.

Speaking Engagements

Speaking of conferences, you can catch me at a few upcoming ones this year, including the Alberta Health and Safety Conference, HSPC Professional Development Conference, and the American Society of Safety Professionals Conference. My goal? To connect with fellow hustlers in the safety profession, share what I know about driver safety, and take in knowledge from the experiences of my peers.

Values

When it comes to my values, I live by integrity, community, ambition, and growth. Because let's face it, the journey is just as important as the destination.

So, there you have it – a little peek behind the curtain. Ready to join me for the ride? Let's make it happen.
